Position Description

The Data Analyst is responsible for the integrity, in-depth analysis, and strategic communication of institutional data across the school’s academic, operational, and financial units. This is a critical role in supporting the data-driven decision-making processes at American International School Chennai. This position involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting educational and operational data to enhance student outcomes, personalize learning, improve operations, and ensure data compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, clean, and manage large datasets from various sources, such as student information systems (PowerSchool / ManageBac or equivalent), assessment tools (NWEA MAP, WIDA, or other assessments), surveys and school administrative systems, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights on student achievement, demographic diversity, learning tiers, survey and feedback, enrollment forecasts, and operational efficacy to inform strategic planning.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing reporting and interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations to communicate findings to school stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in data collection and analysis, including implementing new tools or methodologies to enhance efficiency.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative teams to define data needs, conduct ad-hoc analyses, and provide training on data interpretation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Education, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in data analysis, including sourcing, cleaning, transforming and creating reports and dashboards.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and languages, such as SQL, Python, R, Google Sheets, or advanced Excel functions.
  • Expertise in reporting and visualization tools such as Looker Studio, Tableau or equivalent
  • Basic working knowledge on data warehousing, data engineering and related tools such as BigQuery 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to handle complex datasets.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey technical insights to non-technical audiences.
  • Commitment to data integrity, confidentiality, and ethical practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Educational Data Analytics or Business Intelligence.
  • Experience working in international or multicultural environments in education setting
  • Familiarity with educational systems (e.g., PowerSchool, Google Classroom) and/ or school operations
