Teaching and Learning

...Is Mission-Driven

At AISC our Mission and Core Values drive teaching and learning. Students engage with the Mission in classrooms, at celebrations, and as they observe their surroundings on campus. All curricular initiatives and adopted standards are mission-aligned and faculty actively integrate the ideals into planning and instruction.

...Is Standards-Based

The curriculum, assessment and instruction at AISC are grounded in and guided by our adopted standards. Our adopted standards are research-based, rigorous, relevant and transferable. Our standards, alongside the planning approach of Understanding by Design, provide a means to a viable, guaranteed and dynamic curriculum that is aligned within and across disciplines and grade levels.

Our current standards are:

...Is Inquiry Forward

From Making Thinking Visible to Project Based Learning to AISC’s Inquiry Cycle, all students experience the wonder of inquiry-based learning across all grade levels and disciplines.

Our Students Know Best

Hear from students across all three sections about their experiences with Inquiry-Based and Project-Based Learning, and how these frameworks have helped our Raptors be self-directed learners.

...Is Personalized

AISC’s commitment to personalization of learning can be found across all sections of the school. Our play-based Early Years program empowers our youngest learners to follow curiosities with the support of their teachers.

Passionate About Education

Throughout Elementary School children engage in passion projects driven by their own interests. In Middle School, students take part in our STEAM Fest program, where they develop dynamic problem solving and resilience through design cycles and iteration. Finally, in High School students not only choose from an extensive course catalog but can self-design courses through Personalized Learning.

In our English as an Additional Language and Learning Support Programs, students in need of specific support are given the tools to grow and excel. For those who require it, an alternative pathway to graduation is available.

...is Adaptive and Flexible

Learning never stops at AISC. While our commitment to each student’s classroom home remains paramount, we have taken measures to create the virtual learning home model, empowering our teachers and students to move with flexibility between the models of learning when the need arises.
