Maker Carnival AISC 2020

Maker Carnival AISC is a free to attend AISC community event, which will be held on Saturday, March 7th from 10:00 - 3:00. Maker Carnival takes the form of a “Show, Tell, and Do” experience where makers will have the opportunity to showcase their craft and participants can enjoy learning new skills. It is a family-friendly event full of invention and creativity as well as a celebration of the maker movement. It’s a place where people can show what they are making and share what they are learning.

For those who have participated in the past, Maker Carnival will look different this year as we invite more students and parents to participate in different ways. From school clubs to middle school students working on STEAM projects to students of all ages trying different activities, the AISC community will be involved in new and exciting ways this year.

Makers range from educators, staff, students, and parents who are also artists, tinkerers, engineers, crafters, hobbyists, scientists, and more! All ages and backgrounds welcome! Maker Carnival’s mission is to entertain, inform and connect the makers of the AISC community.

So come join us to listen to STEAM stories in the CIC, work on your STEAM project, help to paint our 25th Anniversary Mural, make jewelry, program and explore robots, paint with watercolors, and much more!

1Maker Carnival Chennai sounds like the best thing i have ever heard of! What exactly is this amazingly innovative event?
Maker Carnival Chennai is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.
2Is Maker Carnival Chennai on everyday? Please let it be every day! I want one now!
Hmmm well aren’t you eager, I’m afraid it happens but once a year. We open at 10 am and will go to 3pm on Saturday, March 7, 2020. Sign up to join us as a maker, participant or volunteer.
3I will pay whatever it takes for me attend, do you accept American Express?
No, it is free. Just come along. Maker Carnival AISC is a non-profit event. All the organizers and makers volunteer to make the day happen.
4I build cool stuff, can I show it off at Maker Carnival Chennai? Is there a secret handshake or something?
Not a handshake but an open call. Anyone can submit their project when the call opens. Once it closes, the committee calls the elders to an elaborate secret banquet and decisions are made to what the public gets to see in March. We are open to pretty much anything, so be creative. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, artists, science clubs, students, authors, and commercial exhibitors. They are of all ages and backgrounds, part of the AISC community.
5Can I volunteer at the Maker Carnival Chennai?
You bet you can! We love our volunteers. Please contact or for details about volunteering.
6Can you not just record it and then transfer the experience into my brain?
We will be shooting some video and photography of the event. So you might get your picture taken if you turn up. The technology for what you want does not exist. Yet.
7What if it rains?
The show will go on! Bring rain gear to keep you dry when walking outdoors. Fortunately, we have marquees/covers over the outdoor booths and vendors, and a team with uncrushable spirit.
8What can I expect?
To have a fantastic time! You’ll be surprised and intrigued with every corner that you turn. Expect to rummage, chat, fiddle, twiddle and create. Expect to come away with new merchandise, experiences, and ideas. Most of all, expect to see the amazing maker community that AISC holds, and take with you new connections and friends.
