Author Visits

Each year the library brings authors to share their love of reading and writing with our students. Our students love books and they especially love getting to meet the people who write them. We've been fortunate to have the following authors visit us at AISC as part of an author visit.

  • 2019: Marc Tyler Nobleman
  • 2018: Sara Holbrook and Michael Salinger
  • 2017: Matt Holm
  • 2016: John Coy
  • 2015: Lauren Stringer
  • 2014: John Coy

Book Fairs

The library sponsors two book fairs each year.

  • Fall: We have an Indian book fair as part of the school's India Month celebration. This fair showcases great stories and illustrations about and from our host country, India! Scholastic, Tara Books, and Tulika Books take part in this fair.
  • Spring: We have a Scholastic book fair which has tons of great books that students always enjoy!

Home Language Read Alouds

Our library believes in the power of story, be it in any language! Once a month, students have the opportunity to hear books read aloud in their native language by our parent community. This is a great chance for students to hear important tales from back home, further their critical thinking skills around books and text in their home language, and develop a love for reading. Please check our calendar for the next read aloud in your language. If you are a parent and would like to offer a read aloud in your language not listed, please see a member of our library staff.

International School Writers Conference

The library holds an International School Writers Conference (ISWC) for students from different international schools. In the past students at schools in India, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam have joined us. Students participate in an expert group led by an author to perfect their craft. In addition, they also choose between a variety of mini-workshops to develop their writing skills. These have included: foreshadowing, paper slide video making, developing characters, interesting plots, illustration, poetry, and more. In 2017, the following expert groups took place: graphic novels (Matt Holm), novels (Ken Derby), and storytelling (Jeeva Raghunath). Our next ISWC is scheduled for April, 2019.

ECIS Library Triennial 2018

Our library welcomed 250 people from across the globe for a wonderful librarian get-together in February, 2018! Librarians, other educators, and authors came from 45 countries for four days of amazing learning. Participants could choose from 80 different workshops and we had distinguished visitors come to deliver keynote speeches. Several of our students performed and the talented Ms. Bombay Jayashri sang for the group, including the Oscar-nominated theme song for the Life of Pi. The get-together was a wonderful way to also highlight the wonders of southeast India, including: mehendi, tender coconuts, flower garlands, music, art, masala chai, literary traditions, and food. Visiting librarians walked away saying how much they loved our libraries and AISC, a very special place to be!
