AISC Technology and Information Literacy Vision Statement

IT and Library Services will collaborate with and empower students and staff to transform curiosity, creativity and compassion into ideas or artifacts with personal, social, or global significance.

1-to-1 Bring-Your-Own-Technology Program

All students in grades 3-12 are required to bring a personal computing device with them to school.

The following policy and procedure applies to student-owned BYOT devices that require service.  This also applies to devices without the option of switching the operating system language to English.

Servicing Student and Teacher BYOT Devices

All students and teachers may utilize the services of our third-party technician from Tekflair to service their devices. Service under warranty, or minor service that does not require the purchase of replacement parts is provided free of charge. For all student-owned BYOT devices that are non-functional, require servicing or replacement, or that lack the option of switching the operating system language to English:

  • AISC will loan a device through our checkout system during the school day for up to 5 school days. Checkout devices cannot be brought home.
  • After 5 school days Tekflair will rent a laptop on a weekly basis for RS. 1500/week.
  • Students may choose to rent a device at any time if necessary.

Technology at the American International School Chennai enhances classroom learning through expanded opportunities for communication, collaboration, creativity and expression. Ubiquitous Internet access with state-of-the-art WiFi and cloud-based applications provide students and teachers with safe, reliable, and collaborative resources to foster student-centered learning through personally meaningful inquiry. AISC actively seeks new and powerful tools that reinforce and enhance effective teaching and learning practices while innovating where possible to apply new paradigms that better meet the needs of the digital-age learner.

Computer Resources for Teachers and Students

  • Students at AISC enjoy access to a wide variety of devices for learning.
    • Grades 3-12 participate in a mandatory BYOT program (see above)
    • Grades 1-2 are 1:1 with iPads in each classroom.
    • PK-KG have classroom iPad stations.
    • Our Faculty BYOT Program allows teachers in all sections to use their preferred Devices.
  • Wireless Network - All instructional spaces, administration offices, library and many outdoor spaces have access to high-speed Internet through 802.11ac Cisco wireless. Parents and guests may connect to the Internet while on campus.
  • Labs - Currently we maintain and staff one computer lab in the High School for continued access to high-end software.
  • Projectors and Tablets - All classrooms are outfitted with a mounted projection device accessible wirelessly.  Many classrooms have Smartboards. Students and teachers can project work from their computers using Epson’s Easy MP or Apple TV devices. Many teachers use document cameras to scan and project physical learning materials.
  • Robotics - We have the legos mindstorm materials that are used for a robotics after-school activity in the Middle School.

Applications and Systems

  • Communications Tools - Google Apps serves as our all-in-one email and document management tool.  Gmail is a familiar web-based email tool provided within our AISC Google Apps domain. Teachers use Google Docs to create documents, share them with students and colleagues, and collect work.  All students also have Google accounts which gives them access to calendars, presentations, spreadsheets, forms, videos, and blogging tools among others. To learn more about Google Apps for Education, please visit the Google FAQ page for this service.


  • Learning Management System - All teachers use Moodle to manage their online content and communicate learning with community members.  Moodle also acts a community portal to provide secure information to parents, teachers, and students.

  • Student Management System - We use Skyward, a web-based integrated student information management system for student admissions, student attendance, student reporting, and preparing middle and high school course schedules. We are implementing the family and student access modules to communicate gradebooks, attendance, and report cards on a live basis in HS.
  • Library Management System - Destiny provides AISCH library automation services encompassing cataloging, circulation, inventory, and public access catalog capabilities. The database allows us to track patrons, titles, usage data, and collection development in order to optimize our services for students, teachers and families in the most cost-effective manner possible.
  • Counseling Services - We employ Naviance software to facilitate college applications and school records.

Technical Support Services

Dedicated technical support personnel are available during the school's working hours and on Saturdays. and Holidays to provide technical support services. We use an online trouble ticket system to support issues that can wait in queue.

IT Curriculum and Professional Development

Rapid changes in technology are continuously challenging teachers and tech integrators to meet high expectations in 21st century teaching standards. Three technology integrators, one at each section/developmental level,  are available for co-planning, coaching, and co-teaching to integrate technology into classroom learning.

User Policies

We treat digital citizenship as the core of our tech integration vision.  Responsible use policies provide students and staff with the guidelines for safe and ethical use of technology systems in the school. Rather than block or monitor specific sites, we aim to educate the community in appropriate Internet use and filter only categories of sites that have inappropriate or offensive material with no practical educational value.
